With guards Gaspar and Jonah Bredeson getting into the passing lanes and point guard Brandon Awa applying solid on-the-ball pressure, Konawaena coach Donny Awa said, the Wildcats scored their fair share of fast-break points.

“A lot of it came off transition,” said Donny Awa, who also commended Shropshire for his work on the boards. “Our defense created some turnovers that led to some easy baskets.”

Senior guard Deion Utrera scored a team-high seven points for the Waveriders.

Konawaena JV 36, Kealakehe JV 33: Kaimi Wilson scored 14 points, and Kevin Medeiros followed with 13 for the Wildcats.

Evan Hanson led Kealakehe with 10 points, and Arthur Freddy had nine.

Konawaena 48, Honokaa 27: Courtney Kaupu scored a game-high 16 points for the Wildcats, who improved to 6-1 in nonconference play this season.

Zoe Acdal and Chanelle Molina added eight points, and Hoku Liftee had seven for Konawaena, which led 26-9 at halftime.

Shayla Ignacio led Honokaa with 10.
